Gayatri Arun

Biography: Dr. Gayatri Arun serves as the Executive Vice President of Biology at Envisagenics, a NYC based start-up that uses RNA analytics and AI to discover novel splicing derived targets and therapeutics. Dr. Arun received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research in Bangalore, India, and completed her postdoctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York. Dr. Arun was awarded the Susan G. Komen Fellowship for her work on decoding the role of long non-coding RNAs in breast cancer progression and metastasis. She has more than 20 years of research experience in RNA biology and understanding RNA regulation in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. During her tenure at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Dr. Arun led an antisense-based therapeutic development for long non-coding RNAs in breast cancer, in collaboration with Ionis Pharmaceuticals. She also initiated and led the development of the human breast organoid biobank and its characterization as part of the NCI's Human Cancer Model Initiative. Currently, Dr. Arun leads the target discovery program at Envisagenics and heads experimental research in oncology and neuro indications. Her research focuses on the discovery and validation of novel alternative splicing-derived targets and therapeutics in oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, and other indications.
